CELEBRATION OF VARALAKSHMI VIRADHAM FESTIVAL

Few people will celebrate Varalakshmi Viradham at their house by placing kalasam and amman face on the kalasam   and few people will go to temple where kalasam is kept to do their pooja depends on their custom.

This article is for those who are going to temple and place the plate before the kalasam there, do archana , back to home and perform pooja;-

We  need not feel bad for not keeping and doing the Lakshmi face on the kalasam since it is not practice in vogue. Instead without placing the Lakshmi mukam  in the kalasam we can follow the following simple method:

Take the silver kalasam or copper kalasam or Bronze kalasam, put one glass of water and add rose water in it. Put Elakai and lavangam. We are adding rose water, elakkai and lavangam to get  the fragrance  in the water since Lakshmi is very fond of nice smell. Then put coin in the water , either silver, gold or even one rupee coin is enough as per our affordability. Keep coconut and mango leaves  on the mouth of the kalasam. The picture is showing silver kalasam , silver coconut and silver mango leaves. Then decorate the kalasam with black beads chain. Kalasam with all these decorations shall be  kept on the wooden or silver plate. Take one plate and spread rice on it. Place this kalasam and decorate with flowers. As Ganapathy is first God to start pooja for any matter, keep one Ganapathy idol on the tray. Also put badam, cashew and dry fruits in a small bowl and keep in front of the kalasam as a prasadam. Since Lakshmi Goddesses is a god of wealth, she likes rich prasadam. Hence preferable keep nuts and dry fruits.

Then take the required items such as 21 bananas, 21 beetle leaf, 21 kali pakku and nombu thread as per the persons in the house in the plate and go to the temple. The number of threads 
shall be in odd numbers only, ie., 3, 5, 7 like that. If 4 persons are there they should keep 5 nombu threads like that. Poojari will keep the plate before the temple kalasam , and will perform archana. Then we have to bring back the plate to home with  nombu thread and required items and keep it in the   pooja shelf  where we have already kept the kalasam as prepared in the above mentioned para . We shall  place one plantain leaf before the pooja shelf and keep Vada, Kolukattai, Payasam and other food items  and  do pooja at home by saying lakshmi slokas and breaking the coconut.
