                                            OUR CHILDREN, OUR RESPONSIBILITY

Of late, especially during this lockdown period , the sexual harassment of girls, that too minors (small kids) have increased in Tamil Nadu. We may call the culprits as animals or porikis whatever we want to, but still parents, keeping in view the bad/worst atmosphere , shall doubly be cautious / alert in monitoring their children.

We , parents shall keep our children under our control and sight. Later on there is no use in crying. I, may be little bit rude, but this is what it is. Parents shall realise their responsibility. 100%.

I , reproduce the news and survey of child abuse happened in one month, advice of the experts for everyone’s kind perusal. Please go through this. Take care of our children.

Special Note: And its sorry to note that Government is giving compensation to the family and family also accepting it. Afterwards no one knows about the further action taken on the cases. One after an other cases are also accumulating and public failed to have track on the cases.

PUDUKKOTTAI:

A 25-year-old man was arrested for the murder and sexual assault of a seven-year-old Dalit girl in Yembal, Aranthangi. The girl, the daughter of agricultural labourers, had gone missing from her house on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday evening her body was found in a pond near her house. She was found with multiple injuries on her body and a torn dress.

Police said the accused, identified as Raja, was the child’s neighbour and known to her. He runs a flower shop in the area. Pudukkottai Superintendent of Police Arun Sakthikumar said that the accused had confessed to the crime. On Tuesday evening, the accused allegedly followed the child when she went out to play in the evening. Police said he attempted to rape her. However, as she resisted and screamed, he allegedly struck her on the chest with a rock and beat her on the head.He said that he committed the crime alone.

After attempting to rape her, he killed her as he didn’t want to be identified. The post mortem report confirms our suspicions,” said Sakthikumar, who was on the spot Wednesday evening. Sakthikumar said that although Raja claimed to have attempted to rape her, he was being booked for rape as any penetration was considered rape according to the law. Therefore the FIR was filed under Section 376 (Rape), 302 (Murder) and other sections of the POCSO act.

Police said the family and villagers believed the case was one of gang sexual assault. “However, the accused has accepted that he did this alone,” said a police official.

Although the child’s body was found Wednesday evening, the post mortem examination was conducted only on Thursday evening. Villagers and the child’s family had agitated and refused to come to Pudukkottai medical college hospital to claim the body till Thursday evening. They had demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh from the government. The post mortem examination was completed only after police intervened.

COIMBATORE:

The three boys, aged between 15 and 16, have been booked under the POCSO Act for sexually molesting an 11-year-old girl in Coimbatore. Two of them are alleged to have repeatedly assaulted the girl and were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Saturday. They are now lodged at an observation home for juveniles in Coimbatore city police said. Police have not yet secured the third boy.

According to the police, the girl, a class VII student, resides with her widowed father in a rented house near Sundarapuram. While her father goes to work, the child stays at the landlord's house on the ground floor of the building to watch television. Police said the landlord recently gave his 16-year-old son, a Class 10 student, a smartphone to attend online classes.

On May 20, when the girl was there watching television she is said to have noticed the boy and his friend watching pornography on the smartphone. On realising she had seen then, the two boys allegedly forced the girl to watch the videos before taking her to her house upstairs and sexually assaulting her. Police said they assaulted her repeatedly and warned her against telling anyone. According to police, the boys later invited another boy, a minor, to join them in sexually assaulting the girl. This went on for a week, police revealed.

A few days ago, the girl was taken to a government hospital after developing severe stomach pain. She revealed what had happened to the doctors who examined her. The doctors alerted Podanur police.

After receiving a complaint from the girl's father, Podanur police registered a case against the three boys under Sections 5 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) and 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The police picked up two and produced them before the Juvenile Justice Board which sent them to an observation home on Saturday night. Further investigation is on, said police.

Vidya Reddy of Tulir, who works in the area of child sexual abuse, sees such cases as reason why digital citizenship must become part of school syllabus and why children must be provided resources to understand boundaries and their own sexual development.

"Considering that more aspects of education, business and other interactions are shifting online, it is essential that digital citizenship becomes part of the school syllabus," she said. "Digital citizenship must be taught from Class 1 onwards with an understanding of the social and emotional learning of children."

"We have to understand we live in a sexualised world, and children are constantly exposed to sexual materials. Such crimes will continue to take place if we don't provide resources for children to understand boundaries, their own sexuality and sexual development and responsible use of technology," she explained.

KANYAKUMARI:

Early June, in Kanyakumari district, four men and two minor boys were arrested after they sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl. Later that month in Coimbatore, three minor boys were booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for molesting a 11-year-old girl.
The lockdown has seen a spike in the instances of domestic violence as women are trapped indoors with their abusers. And many children too are at high risk of facing abuse within their homes, say activists. Considering the severely underreported category of crimes that constitute child sexual abuse (CSA) inside families, they fear the lockdown has made both reporting and intervention next to impossible. “When we get a case of a child facing abuse from a family member, we first move them to a safe space, which is not possible now,” says Sherin Bosko, founder of rape crisis centre and NGO Nakshatra. “With lockdown, the scope for incest crimes has gone up because both the perpetrator and the victim are forced to stay indoors.”

Special Note: And its sorry to note that Government is giving compensation to the family and the family is also accepting it. Afterwards no one knows what’s happening on the cases.  One after an other cases are also accumulating and public failed to have track on the cases.
After few years when court is releasing the judgement, agin the topic will become the talk of the town.

Once again i would like to reiterate that our children , our responsibility.

Stay safe, Take care of our children. They are our life!
