BIGG BOSS SEASON4 KONDATTAM: AN ANALYSIS
Bigg Boss season4 was completed on 17th January 2021. The Kondattam was celebrated on 7th February 2021. I want to say here the 4 hours was nothing but Thindattam for the viewers.
BB season4 kondattam was organised on the 7th of February 2021, amidst lots of expectations. But it was a total disappointment. None of the programmes were up to the mark. But still, there were a few events that need a critical mention. Hence, the analysis.
There were three main aspects which urged me to write on the BB4 kondattam:
1. Archana. Vijay TV paid a lot of money to get her from Zee TV, and might not rest until they get the ROI (return on investment) back, even if it means shoving Archana down the viewer’s throat. The desperation to fix her image is worth the mention
2. Highly objectionable body shaming done to Nisha.
3. Rio and his parents. It was too touching to see Rio’s parents on stage.
In addition, Anitha’s boldness & intelligence, and Ramya’s smartness were really appreciable.
Let's go into the analysis:
DD re-entry, Regular audience:
First, a happy mention. Regular viewers were the audience, finally. So far, only digital viewers were there, for the 105 days of BB season 4. It was nice to see Regular Viewers.
Secondly, after a break, Anchor DivyaDarshini made re-entry and hosted the show. Her fans would be happy on her re-entry. As usual, she stole the show. She didn't give space to MaPaKa, the co-host, and in between, he was not even seen. Maybe, he just left to host a different Vijay TV programme, in the next set!😄
Welcoming the contestants:
Contestants were greeted with garlands. Out of 18 contestants, 17 were there. Suchitra was conspicuously missing. DD asked the contestants to tell their experience after coming out from the BBH. Everyone gave a casual reply, but Archana said ‘it was a big lesson for her’. From the show though, it looked like the lesson was not big enough.
Somu’s answer was catchy. He said that before entering the BBH, he had only about, 4000 followers in his Instagram, and after coming out from the BBH, he has around one lac followers.
Bala said his BP increased after BB!
Aari said his decision of accepting the BB offer was the only correct thing he has did in his life, and he has become the Chella Pillai of everyone.
Balaji, Gabi, Shivani, Ramyapandian and Rio danced in the show. Somu, Ajeedh and Velmurugan sang. Nothing more to tell on their performances.
Balaji with his fans:
Balaji's fans came to the stage; each one of them had one single red rose in their hand. They grabbed Balaji on stage and gifted the red rose to him. One girl recited a (beautiful?!) kavithai collection. One sample line ‘Bala enakku varuviya nee ala’! Idhu epiruku?! Super!!
And all the girls together, put a crown on his head. One girl gifted him a watch and tied it in his hand. They all danced with him. One girl said that her hands were shaking as she was standing close to Balaji.
Quick note:
I wonder what the parents of these young girls would think. Would they get angry on them or feel happy that their daughters appeared on the National Television?
When Balaji was inside the BBH, he said he wanted to enter into BBH to show his identity. Yes, no one knew who Balaji was before BBH. Now he is fully exposed to the people and has gained fans, especially the youngsters. When he talked to his girl fans on the kondattum stage, he said that when he was inside the BBH, he was scared that only his negative side would be projected but after coming out of the BBH, he felt happy on seeing that his positive side has also reached the viewers.
Balaji’s youth and his frankness have attracted many, and he gained huge fans.
Serious note:
Yes, that is Bigg Boss show! Even a commoner gets unlimited fame, and a celebrity could lose their fame. Everything depends on how a person carries his/her play inside the BBH, and how true the person is to himself and others. The contestants should be prepared for both the best and worst.
Ball Task:
Next, DD organised a mokka Ball task. It is the story building activity that kids do in school. Aari started a story. Bala had to continue it. He said he did not listen to what Aari said. DD explained. The game got messed up. It was paused in the middle. Sigh!
Performance of Poovaiyar and Sandy master:
Poovaiyar started his performance first, and Sandymaster joined with him in the middle. Sandy master is an entertainer. Sandy’s performance in kondatam of season1 was too good. But in this season his performance was good. Long way to go for Poovaiyar.
Archana’s Anchoring:
DD asked Archana to anchor the next segment. The only plus point in this segment was Archana’s crystal clear voice. At the same time she speaks loudly with over attitude and it was irritating to watch.
Archana called the female contestants on stage and gave each of them a task from BBH.
For example, she asked Ramya Pandian to show how her soft hurt would be. Ramya called MaPaKa and tried to soft hurt him. She pretended as if she didn't even know the spelling of soft hurt.
As a part of the segment, Archana asked Nisha to say her usual dialogue of ‘silar aluvar, silar siripar, naan aludukonde sirikindren’ in five different expressions. Nisha tried emotionally followed by shockingly, but she couldn't do it, and started laughing. Archana commented ‘seidhu tholai’, ‘panni tholai’ . Archana said this many times, and finally, Nisha said she would do it normally in her style. Senju tholai Archana said again. Archana’s behaviour was very arrogant.
Quick note:
What kind of behaviour is this? Even if they both are friends. And Nisha does not seem to have much self respect, letting Archana stamp over her.
It's National Television and is telecast throughout the world. Archana proved the name Bossy Kumar is apt for her.
DD appeared on stage and appreciated each and every female contestant for their sportiveness and courage despite negative comments. She especially appreciated Archana for overlooking the negative remarks and also appreciated her for involvement in the RJ task and Patti sollai thatadae task.
Yes DD was right. Archana’s performance in RJ task was outstanding. She gave her full involvement in all the tasks.
Singapennae song was played in the background.
With this, Archana’s anchor session was over. Thank god. Now, lets see as Vijay TV tries to pull Archana into their other shows. They have done their best to repair her image.
KPY Bala ana Ramar performance:
KPY Bala entered the stage. In Thiruvilaiyadal Shivaji and Nagesh style, Nisha asked questions, and KPY Bala answered. A Few examples:
Bala: exercise
Suresh: triple exercise
Jithan Ramesh: 70 naal thalaimaraivu
Archana: Thai pasam (yuck!)
Aari: viruvirupu
Nisha: Aruvarupu (seriously?!) Shame on you Vijay TV.
Why is Nisha allowing such things? She is degrading herself. I see she is being projected as showing confidence ‘despite’ being skin completion. But by letting people walk all over her, she has done way more damage to ‘dark beauties ‘ out there.
Then Ramar entered. Both KPY Bala and Ramar played a skit. KPY Bala was a director. The scene was, Ramar proposing to Rekha. Nisha was Rekha’s friend and Suresh was Rekha’s brother.
Very serious note:
KPY Bala and Ramar was body-shaming Nisha from the minute he came on stage. Dialogues were muted at many places. What is the necessity for VTV to telecast such sub-standard skits, and by body-shaming a person what would they get? Double shame on you, Vijay TV. You have hit a new low.
The decision of Vijay TV to allow such body-shaming is very objectionable. There is a limit for everything. Western countries are moving farther and farther in political correctness. We don’t need to move that far. But can we at least stay decent?
I think Nisha is not restricting such things as it is her survival. But why? She has excellent talent in stand-up comedy. Once inside the BBH, she spoke extremely well in pattimandram task. Even Kamal gave a virtual hug to her. Nisha should not allow others to let her down. Even Rio, Archana and Somu were laughing at her when KPY Bala body-shamed her. Disgusting.
Archana and her daughter Zara’s performance:
Archana and her daughter both danced well and the special note of Zara on criticism on social media was also good. But Archana linked it with her quote Anbu thothuduchi, and used her daughter as trump card for pacifying her atrocities inside the BBH, which was not fair.
Aari spoke against online abuse in his commentary after the performance.
Here, I am forced to mention Archana’s game play inside the BBH.
Archana entered the BBH after ten days and to some extent knew the pulse of the contestants. She planned to use Anbu as a strategy. It backfired as her Anbu was biased. Her Anbu was not equal even with in her gang. Rio was on the top followed by Nisha, jithan, Somu and Gabi. Her Anbu Degree varied for each person within her Anbu gang.
If she has real Anbu with all her co-contestants, she would not have uttered the phrases like, ‘ivanellam our aalu’, ‘naria irundhalum manam irukanum’, ‘mama velai pakkariya’, ‘Kadavul Irukana Kumaru’; and in few places her words were muted also. She treated Velmurugan, Sanam and Anitha in a very low way. Since Aari didn't join her Anbu gang despite her invitation, and started questioning her, she developed hatred against him. She trapped Bala also using mom & son tactics. Such degradation to real moms.
Never ending:
No one is perfect. Everyone has flaws. Archana had two options: either she should have felt sorry or should have just ignored the negative comments and moved on. But Since she felt she was right, the question of asking sorry didn’t strike her. Archana kept trying to prove that she was correct and her play using Anbu as her strategy was right. Never ending! She keeps digging her own grave deeper and deeper.
Arrival of Black sheep team and Rio’s parents:
Next Rio’s friends Black sheep team entered. They played a skit mocking Rio’s performance inside the BBH. They showed how Rio reacted when his wife visited the BBH. They also teased him with his favorite word ‘national television’ and reiterated him as a confusion master. They could have added Rio’s false statement of ‘no groupism and no favortism’. They conveniently forgot that.
Rio said he was very well connected with his fans after coming out from the BBH. He also added that he never stayed alone and this was a good experience for him.
That's why he easily merged with Anbu gang.
After Black Sheep ‘s programme Rio’s parents entered. Rio introduced his parents. They worked as Tailor and Driver, he said. His parents felt very happy and they were proud of their son.
Emotional note:
We could see the spark in their eyes and glow in their face. Very touching moment.
Rio’s sincere efforts in his life helped him to reach this appreciable position. Hats off to Rio and his parents.
At this stage I felt bad for Rio. He was playing well initially. After Archana’s entry he got trapped into Anbu gang and his original game was washed out. When Archana got evicted Rio told Somu that Archana has 20 years of experience in small screen and that she took care of her family after her father’s death. He was surprised as to how she got evicted.
Here I would like to register that whether the contestants are a common person or celebrity, people won't see their struggle and their current status. Audience would just see their game. How real and honest the contestants are in their game and with other contestants matters.
Appearance of Anitha’s husband Prabha:
DD called Anitha, Gabi, Ramya and Shivani and said she was going to tie their eyes. They have to touch one, and guess who it was?! DD first tied Anitha”s eyes. MaPaKa pretended that he was tying others eyes but once Anitha’s eyes were closed Mapaka asked others to go back to their place. DD asked to find the thing. Anita removed the cloth from her eyes and saw her husband.
First time she gave a broad smile. She was in dull mood all along since she lost her father recently. Her husband told how she suffered in her life and brought up her family. He also said during BB season 1, 2016 she was working and staying in a hostel where there was no TV. Prabha would narrate it to her. Now in BB4, Anitha was a contestsant. Prabha said Anitha reached this level purely on her hard work with no one’s support. He also said she is bold and an intelligent girl.
Appreciation note:
Yes Anitha proved that she is bold and intelligent. She and her husband got negative comments for showing too much of anger inside the BBH. Despite her father’s death, Anitha used the chance of entering the BBH in the last week as a visitor and apologized. She fixed her image. Now she gained huge fans.
Lot of bravery is required to ask sorry, in the National Television. Anitha has it. Not everyone does. Anita ‘s life is very good example for strong middle class girls. Singapennae song should have been played when Anitha was on stage with her husband. She deserves it.
Entry of Ramya’s fans:
Few youngsters, both boys and girls entered the stage. All were wondering who's fans they were! They stood in the order where each one’s T shirt had one letter and it together read ‘We love Ramya Pandian’ . Ramya was surprised and felt so happy. She went on stage and joined with them. Before entering they did palabishekam and put a big garland to Ramya’s cut out. Again Singapennae song was played. One girl read a kavithai for Ramya. Ramya’s brother and sister might have arranged this. Sabbah. Her fans even called Ramya as. ‘Thalaivi, Thalaivi’! She danced with her fans. They gifted a plant in a pot to Ramya.
Special note:
Here I should definitely mention this. Ramya got many abusive negative comments. But she ignored those comments and moved on. Genuine negative comments were also there. Though she didn't react back, she might have corrected her mistakes. She took only positive comments. This shows her smartest!
Entry of farmers:
Last but not least a few farmers entered on stage. They felicitated the winner of the BB4 Aari Arjunan on the stage. They gifted Nerkadir to him.
Aari said ‘padaichavan Mattum kadavul illai,
Vidaithavanum kadavul than’
Remembering the farmers protesting more than 75 days at Delhi. Wish an early settlement in this regard.
Aari called the other contestants also on stage and said ‘ Naan jeikanumnu vilaiyadinen, annal naan mattumdhan jeikanumnu vilaiyadalai’ . He also added that the credit goes only to his co-contestants and the people who supported him. Though his speech was lengthy, the messages conveyed by him spread positive vibes.
Aari said he suffered a lot in releasing his first film and it was a disaster for him. That time he thought positively and started the ‘Marappom Mannipom ‘ organization and created Guinness record, under ‘nanum our vivasayee ‘ scheme.
He asked everyone to sow at least one seed.
He also announced that with the prize money, he would arrange to create an awareness on breast cancer. Secondly, he said he would a start a production company and introduce talented persons in different areas and produce pictures.
Also, he informed he had produced and acted in a kurumoadam ‘Sundara Thaimozi’
Which is to be released on ‘10th Ulaga Tamil Manadu’ to be held at Chicago.
End card:
With this BB season4 kondattam was over. On the whole, there was lack of creativity in this kondattam.
Season4 caused more negativity for Archana. VTV gave her a chance to patch her negatvieness but she failed miserably.
Next to Archana, Ramya pandian was affected with negative comments but she just ignored and overcame it very smartly. Moreover, her fans appeared on stage and made her feel proud.
