KK Nagar PSBB is in the news for a bad reason!!!!

Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School, KK Nagar Chennai, is the talk of the city now

PSBB, Chennai is one of the best top five schools in Chennai city. Unfortunately, the school is now in the news for wrong reasons, that too for sexual harassment. The reason why I decided to write this issue in my blog is, my daughter studied in PSBB, KK Nagar Branch from Pre KG to 12th std.,

Let's go into the topic:

My daughter studied in PSSB, KK Nagar Branch from Pre-KG to 12th std., Mr Rajagopal, accused/charged  now with sexual harassment, was her Accountancy and Business studies teacher for 11th and 12th std., My daughter scored All India First rank in Accountancy for the year 2004, and the credit goes to Mr Rajagooal only, her Accountancy teacher.
Mr Rajagopal was very sincere and dedicated in his work. He was very well respected by both students and parents during the period when my daughter studied. My daughter was awarded the Best outgoing student when she passed out in 2004, and the credit goes to her teachers only.

I really don't know what happened to him!
‘ Vinasa Kale Vibaridha Budhi’ I can't think more than this. This is the apt quote  for this time of the matter.

What is the incident?!
One of the Alumni, Ms Kripali of PSBB School, posted the sexual harassment issue in her Instagram post, saying  Mr G. Rajagopalan, the Accountancy and the Commerce teacher, is attending online classes only with a towel wrapped around his naked body. He also sent messages to one students and asked if she wanted to go to a movie with him. It's also reported by the students that Mr Rajagopalan even used to threaten his students not to disclose his personal comments to their parents. He also threatened the students that he will reduce their marks  if anyone lodges a Complaint against him.
Ms Kripali shared the screenshots of the messages posted  between Mr Rajagopal and the student. Students have raised the oral complaints  to the School's Management, but no action has been taken against Mr Rajagopalan as reported by the students.

The Ashok Nagar police, Chennai police on Monday night, 24.5.2021, arrested Mr Rajagopalan under the POSCO after students and Alumni accused him of sexual harassment. Management denied that they have any idea about the conduct of the Rajagopalan. The Alumni circulated a letter dated: 23. 5.2021, addressed to the Principal, detailing the complaints of sexual harassment against Rajagopalan and demand his suspension.

🖕Who has taken the matter in the social media, first! She posted the above in her Instagram page.

Action taken by the police:
A written complaint has been lodged with the Ashok Nagar Women’s police station. Based on this the  police has taken Mr Rajagopal in their custody with the approval of the court. During the Inquiry, Mr Rajagoal himself confess he has been  doing this for the past five years. He has also stated that few more teachers are involved in this. He has deleted a few pictures and videos from his laptop and mobile. But the cybercrime retrieved the deleted videos and pictures and the investigation is going on. Police also inquired the principal and the correspondent in this regard. There is no doubt the police will take appropriate action as deemed fit. The latest information is that the bail denied to Mr Rajagopalan, as reported by the press.

Negligence on the part of the school:
At the same time, though the school has suspended Mr Rajogopal, they denied that the school management was not aware of the facts which were going on for the past five weeks.
Ironically, Sexual Harassment Prevention Committee is formed by the school wherein Mr Rajagopalan is also one of the committee member, the funniest part of the issue. But the students' claimed oral complaint was given to the Management several times against Mr Rajagopalan, but the school has not taken a serious note of it. Students were scared to register the complaint in writing because Mr Rajagopalan threatened them that he would reduce their marks.
Moreover, is it not the duty of the Management to monitor how the online classes are going on and get feedback from the teachers and students as well?  Since the online classes are the new techniques being followed for the past one year amidst pandemic situation, the school management must have a vigil on online classes.
Anyways, since the matter has come out in the limelight, is it not the basic courtesy of the jschool should seek apologies from the students and their parents? Also the school management shall  give assurance that in future school would doubly care about the children.  But the school management miserably failed to do so, which is very sad.

Negligence on the part of the parents:
Parents should give space to children to discuss any matter openly with them. Parents shall be easily approachable to their children. In few cases, though the children came out with the facts like sexual harassment, parents hesitate to take it further, fearing their children ‘s future. Parents believe the school, with its strong background, might turn down the issue or blame the students themselves.
Further, due to the pandemic situation, only online classes are going for the past one year. Is it not the duty of the parents to check once in a while how the on lines classes are going? Had they reviewed it, Mr Rajagopalan might not be dared to come to the class with a towel wrapped around him.

Diversity of the problems:
Unfortunately, the matter got diversified and entered into religion and caste. Honestly speaking, parents didn't know which religion or caste the teachers working in the school belongs to. The public also was not aware of the religion or the caste of the students studying in the school. Maybe most of the teachers and students belong to one religion/caste, but the public is worried only about the matter. Hence, it's not fair to divert the case and the attention of society.

Remedial measures:
The government issued necessary guidelines for conducting online classes. The government has also advised the school managements to record the online classes and review the same in regular intervals.
Also, the Government is on the job to provide the helpline to the students to register their grievances and to depute a police officer from the cybercrime in the rank of SP, which is welcoming. Moreover, the Government and the police have also promised that the identity of the students who registered complaint will be kept confidential.
Based on the assurance of the Government and the police, students from two more schools have lodged complaints, and the police authorities are taking necessary action on the matters.
‘Veliae payirai meindha ‘ kadaiyagiponadhu. Feeling so sad.

All the Schools shall form the Sexual Harassment prevention Committee and ensure a representative from the Parents side. They may also consider one representative from the student's side to express their grievance more freely.
