Jagame Thandiram: review

Directed by: Karthik Subbaraj

Staring: Dhanush, Aishwarya Lakshmi, Joju George, Kalaiarasanand James Cosmo

Music: Santosh Narayanan

Released on 18. 6. 202 by Netflix

Karthik Subbaraj flowered the ears of the audience with tons of flowers!

Originality is completely missing in this film. Watching this movie on Netflix gives the feeling that one is watching a Netflix series. Moreover, the dialogues in half of the film are in English. As Dhanush wanted a translator in the movie, a lot of audience may require translators as well. I could not avoid thinking of Balaji Murugadoss, the contestant of BB5, who sung the 'Rakita Rakitha' song from this movie multiple times when he was inside the Bigg Boss House!

The plot of the film:
A mini gangster, Madurai Surili(Dhanush), is hired by a ruthless, xenophobic, and anti-immigration racist, Peter, in London (James Cosmo), to kill 1) his rival Sivadoss, (Joju George), who is an immigrant from SriLanka and 2) the Minister who is fighting against BICORE, a parliamentary bill that is being introduced to restrict immigration. Surili does partial job. He then gets to know everything about Peter from Attila, his girlfriend, and later kills Peter.

Karthik Subbaraj wanted to discuss some serious problems, like the state of immigrants, who are fighting to be accepted in Britain. But Merely having a great idea is not enough. Danush's earnest efforts went into vain because of the poor and lonnnnng screenplay. The Sivadoss character, supposed to be a Very strong character in the film, failed to create an impact as the character was not built properly. Moreover, there was absolutely no logic in the movie, especially in the last half an hour—quite a long movie, with no content. Karthik Subbaraj disappointed the audience. But definitely, it's a feast for Dhanush fans. He did exceptionally well. Not only Danush, everyone acted well and gave their best, whatever their character sought. But this is not the only criterion for the success of the movie.

Better luck next time, Karthik Subbaraj.
